10th!
Great Sailing!
Congratulations to all!
There were a total of 26 boats, and all five races were sailed
although
we came off the water for a while becalmed on Saturday and went
back out
with great wind! The races were sailed in nice breeze throughout
with
four Olympic courses and one Gold Cup course. There was
a steady
current running down the beach for every race but the last one
on
Saturday when it went slack. Otherwise the key was to go
into the beach
and find the shifts. Lewes Yacht Club extended open arms
and welcomed
the tent city on their front lawn, offered water aerobics at
8AM daily, a huge
continental breakfast every morning, boat parking on the canal
side or
beach, great meals and hospitality. The Roosevelt
Inlet made a nice
staging ride after launching boats but got hairy after the last
race
with a big headwind and raging tide trying to keep us out!
Sailing off
the beach was fun and gave others a front row seat. The
colorful fleet
pleased the onlookers and looked quite good, even at rest between
races
Saturday. We all got a lesson in anchoring together.
Several times we were
sailing with huge schools of dolphins which was quite thrilling for
those out on
the trapezes!
Also participating and sailing well were
Jim Rice and Pete Wallio (Hampton, VA)
Jim Gardner and his usual crew.(Alexandria, VA)
Dave Rowland and Hank Strother (Va Beach/Alexandria)
Bob Beach and crew (Winchester, VA)
Jerry and Cheryl Desvernine (Richmond, VA)
Tim and Chris McConville (Norfolk, VA)
Jim Browning and Don Polackoviks (Woodbridge/Arlington, VA)
Rodney Evans and crew (Lewes, Del)
Tom and Katie Roberts (West Point, VA)
Tom and Duncan Ward (upside-down trapeze specialist) (Washington,
DC)
Sam Jackson and crew (speciallizing in the "Toss-Launch Spinnaker
set") (Reisterston, MD)
The Roelofs Family (Wilmington, DE)
Merritt Burke and crew (Lewes, DE)
Steve and Richard McDonough et al.(Amityville, NY)
