The Mobjack is a One-Design Class of sailboats, 17' long, with a 6'-6" beam designed by Roger Moorman. He intended to improve on the Thistle, making it a lot more comfortable and made of modern fiberglass and aluminum materials. Originally raced with three, a trapeze was added and now we mostly race with just two. The boat has a large mainsail, furling jib, a spinnaker, kickup centerboard and rudder, and a large open cockpit that fits lots of people. It is self-bailing (there is a deck which remains above the water level with a huge amount of weight in the boat). There is room for your family and friends and even the dog and cooler. It moves well in very little wind and is a blast in a blow! There are fleets in Hampton Roads; Richmond/Deltaville; Washington DC/Northern Virginia; Upper Chesapeake Bay; Smith Mountain Lake; Lewes, Delaware; Long Island, NY; Lake Petenwell, Lake DuBay and Lake Byron, Wisconsin and a scattering of boats all over the country.
